Episode 56: Creating a Content Schedule that WORKS for Mompreneurs
Have you ever found yourself staring at Instagram, wondering what in the world you’re going to post next? Or maybe you’ve tried to get ahead by planning content but ended up overwhelmed by the whole process? I’ve been there—juggling business, kids, and everything else on that never-ending to-do list. Trust me, I get it!
In this post, I’m breaking down how you can create an Instagram content schedule that actually works for you as a busy mom and leads to sales. It might sound daunting, but it doesn’t have to be! Stick with me, and I’ll show you how to make content planning work in those small pockets of time (what I call the "mom cracks" of the day).
Why You Need a Content Schedule (and Why It Leads to Sales)
First things first: Why bother with a content schedule? Isn’t it enough to just post when inspiration strikes? Well, here’s the thing—having a schedule not only keeps you consistent, but it also helps make sure your messaging is clear and builds trust with your audience. Consistency + trust = sales!
When you have a plan, you're not scrambling at the last minute trying to think of something to post. You can avoid the "blank screen panic" and instead focus on showing up with valuable content that speaks to your ideal audience. And guess what? That makes them a lot more likely to buy from you when the time is right.
The Power of Content Pillars: Standing Out on Instagram
Ever feel like the Instagram world is overcrowded with people doing the same thing you are? It’s true—there are tons of accounts out there. But here’s the good news: You have something unique to offer, and that’s where content pillars come in.
Content pillars are the main topics or themes you consistently talk about. These should highlight what makes you different from everyone else. Think of them as the foundation of your Instagram strategy. By focusing on 3-5 core pillars, you’ll stand out and connect with your audience in a way that feels authentic to you.
My 5-Step Instagram Strategy to Drive Engagement and Sales
Now, here’s where things get exciting. I teach a 5-step Instagram strategy inside my program Post with Purpose, and it’s all about guiding your followers through a journey—from growth to sales. These steps are:
Growth: Attract the right people to your account.
Engagement: Get them interacting with your content.
Connection: Build a relationship with your audience.
Trust: Establish credibility through consistency.
Sales: Make offers when the time is right.
The beauty of this strategy is that it’s repeatable and it works, even when you only have small windows of time to dedicate to Instagram. Whether you're launching something or just focusing on building relationships, knowing where you are in this strategy will help you create content that leads to results.
How to Fit Content Planning Into Your Busy Schedule
Now, let’s get real—finding time to plan can be tough, especially when you’re balancing work, kids, and life in general. Here’s my trick: do it in chunks. I don’t sit down and plan an entire month at once because, let’s be honest, that’s just not realistic for me (or most busy moms). Instead, I break it up into smaller, manageable pieces.
One day, I might map out my content pillars and general ideas for the next couple of weeks. Another day, I’ll dive into the details—choosing hooks, writing captions, and deciding on call-to-actions. Doing it bit by bit makes the whole process feel less overwhelming.
Repurpose Like a Pro: Save Time and Stay Consistent
Here’s a game-changing tip: Repurpose your content! Don’t feel like you have to reinvent the wheel with every post. Look at your past content—what performed well? What resonated with your audience? You can take those posts and repurpose them into new formats, like turning a popular caption into a Reel or expanding on a topic for a carousel post.
Not only does this save time, but it also helps with that consistency piece we talked about earlier. You’re reinforcing your message and building trust with your audience while reaching different types of buyers—whether they’re more emotional or more analytical.
Tools to Help You Schedule Like a Boss
If you’re ready to make life even easier, I highly recommend using a scheduling tool. My favorite? Metricool! It’s an affordable, all-in-one platform that lets you schedule content across multiple platforms and provides great insights. Plus, it connects with Canva, so you can create your graphics and schedule them in one go. Scheduling a month’s worth of content in just 10 minutes? Yes, please!
